Thrifted finds

May 30, 2009 at 03:42

I love junk shopping.

I don't know how the addiction started, but it started. It's only got worse since I became a stay at home mom. I have found fabulous dishes, fabrics, flatwares and more. I must have organized and re-organized rooms a dozen times to fit items I have bought and brought home. Plus I can't tell you how many dish patterns we have.

Poor Ken. I admit that this man must love me a hundred times over to deal with this (and my fabric addiction). Thank you sweetheart.

My newest additions after today's excursion.

A new (old) salad plate.
The company: Syracuse
The pattern: Nordic

And a new (always old) butter dish from Pyrex. I have been eyeing this pattern on Etsy, but I am glad I waited. As I am sure this one was ALOT cheaper than what I would have paid there.

Happy Saturday everyone.

I <3 junk shopping!

Feb 19, 2009 at 06:10

I love junk shopping!

What is the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Today that saying is true for me.

My first score of the day is a wonderfully huge new way for me to store my fabrics.

I shall call her... The Iron Giant.

While the gunmetal gray suits her name pretty well, I think I may have to paint her. At least her hard exterior so she won't look so cold.

(Watch out Beth, I may just find the fabric you are looking for!)

My next and greatest score of the day. Some really great vintage sheets.

You are seeing correctly. They are from the Wizard of Oz! Each sheet has got these wonderful images of Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and all of the other wonderful characters. I found two flat sheets, two fitted sheets, and two pillowcases all of this for a whopping $4.99!

I am sure at many points in their life there was a little girl (or two) that loved these sheets. Now it is my turn. I have no idea what I will do with them yet, but it will have to be something great!

Thrifting the day away

Jun 6, 2008 at 07:42

Ken may laugh that I will spend a good part of the day (at least once a week) at the local 'junk shops', but hey... you just never know what you will find.

Like this drum kit for instance.

$10 bucks and Ben loves it... so it makes it all worth while.

Oh. Ben was not sweating like a rock star, it was a pop-icey explosion!

Square foot gardening

May 29, 2008 at 07:56

Mary, Mary, quite contrary... How does your garden grow?

Why?

By the square foot of course!

Dear hunny bunny built me two great planters and two wonderful compost bins over the Memorial holiday weekend. They are great, very economical, and earth friendly.

Got the idea of square foot gardening from Mel Bartholomew.

I hope this works. I was really getting excited after reading his book that I purchased from the thrift store for ten cents.

Here are a few photos for your entertainment.

And of course, Ruby has the new job of keeping squirrels out! She is taking this job very seriously.

Now I just have to figure out what I want to use in between the beds and as a buffer into the yard to make that area a little more aesthetically pleasing (bark, paving stones).

Any ideas?

New stuff

Jan 30, 2008 at 08:59

Well I know I have been gone a while, but I am never far away.

We are getting ready to have our upstairs bathroom gutted to the studs and remodeled. This will be our last big project and our home will practically be new. Last year we remodeled the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, this year will be the upstairs bathroom and maybe a central air conditioner (I hope)!

As the demolition and construction come along I will be sure and blog about it.

Other new stuff news:

My wee man had his second birthday this past Saturday. I know, I know... I am a bad mommy as I have no photos of the party to share, but hey... I was behind the scenes making sure everything was running smoothly.

Well, I do have one I can share. The little man got some sweet cash for his birthday from one of the g-ma's down in Florida. So mom, this one's for you.

Also, found a great artist (new to me), and purchased one of her adorable prints.

You can find her at The Black Apple or buy some of her great work at The Black Apple etsy shop!

My other new find was this great pottery piece. Found it at the Goodwill for .99 cents... what a score. It is completely original as it has a little signature in the clay on the bottom. It is probably worthless, but soo cool.

Right now I am using it for a pencil holder, but that may change... hmmm...

Take care and keep checking back.
