La Casa has a new look

Nov 8, 2009 at 07:16

It's not quite finished, but it still looks fabulous and finished enough to show off.

Everything looks great. I could not be more happy with the colors, even if my husband still shakes his head at the pink color we settled on.

Now I can not wait for Spring to arrive to work on the landscaping.

Have a fantastic Sunday everyone!

As good as it gets... for now.

Oct 26, 2009 at 07:46

Here are a few shots of the new kitchen. I would say it is 85% to 90% complete.

All we need is to hang window/door trim, put up the crown molding/baseboards, attach the glass knobs to the cabinets, and tile the backsplash. It may sound like alot, but to me its the home stretch.

This is the corner that used to house the hot water heater and old stove.

The sink went back into its old space, we just added the dishwasher.

This was the area where there was a crazy old closet. We removed the closet, set the fridge back and added a few more cabinets.

My magnetic wall was an after thought. While magnet paint is nice (since magnets won't stick to the fridge) it doesn't work to well. So save your money.

Once everything is done, I'll do a few before/after shots.

Nighty night!

Another project?!?

Oct 11, 2009 at 10:03

When will we learn to finish one before moving onto another?

I think you remember in one of the older posts we were working on the kitchen. Well we are still not done with it, but it is use-able. Maybe in a week or so I will post a few more shots just to let you know how far it has come and hopefully by Thanksgiving it will be something I can really give thanks for. ^_^

Now to unveil the next project.

Drum roll please...

Yep! That's La Casa and she is receiving some prep work for a fresh coat of paint. Let's hope this project will be completed soon since Ken and I are not the ones working on it.

Here is just a sneak peek for you to consider.

Only in Florida can you paint your house pink!

One week turns into one month

Aug 30, 2009 at 08:29

As many of you know, my husband and I are suckers for older homes. With that comes renovations. Lots of renovations. The one thing I can say for La Casa is that she had central air when we bought her.

After completing kitchen renovations in our NC home, cooking in an old kitchen with an electric range was just not what I wanted. Especially since I was preparing 90% of our meals at home. So after months of discussion and pleading my case, I was able to convince dear husband to start a kitchen remodel.

My bro, basking in the glory of his handiwork.

Are you ready for this...

Nothing... no "after" shots because we are still waiting on our sink from Lowe's Home Improvement (that has come in broken... twice). With no sink, there are no counter tops.

Hence, the kitchen that should have been done in a week has now turned into a month and still no kitchen. Damn you LOWES!!!

More later.

My laundry room

Jul 28, 2009 at 10:38

Dear husband started this project in fall/winter of 2008. It was suppose to be a weekend project, but then he hit a few snags.

To start... we have this little walk through in the back of the house. It is almost like a small hallway (maybe 3'x4'). It separated the backdoor "mudroom" from the back bedroom. Really it was a waste of space. However, one of those walls backed up to another waste of space. This one being a closet in the little man's room that was almost 6' deep.

So what do we do? We reclaim the space of course. This is where the project became time consuming. Poor Ken... when he goes to knock out the wall he finds that it is the original exterior wall to the house. Long story short, after more than eight months and lots of trips to the hardware store I finally have a laundry room and Ben has a use-able closet.

Thanks babe! No more trips to other peoples houses, the laundromat. I can wash clothes and fabric whenever I want!

Yeah!

They are not exactly perfect, but if you want 'closer to perfection'... buy a new house!

The wall

Nov 23, 2008 at 09:52

So our biggest hurdle last week was having someone tackle the damage to the exterior wall of our new, old house... as we now lovingly refer to as La Casa.

Here are a couple of "during construction" photos.

It looked a bit scary and intimidating, but we had the awesome crew at STB Restoration on the job.

Viola!

I have to say... if I had not been there to see the wall opened up I would have never known.

More later.
